The Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce that it awarded grants totaling $1,836,500 to 67 organizations during the quarter ending March 2008. Grants will support a wide variety of vital services in Middle Tennessee.

On Tuesday, February 5 tornadoes tore through Tennessee destroying thousands of homes and lives. Many families throughout Middle Tennessee were left homeless and with many unmet needs. The American Red Cross - Nashville Area Chapter received a lead grant of $200,000 from The Memorial Foundation's Emergency Response Fund to support its relief efforts in providing immediate, compassionate help to those communities most affected by this disaster. The Memorial Foundation also awarded grant funding in support of the Chapter's new "Join The 10,000" initiative and to implement the new Red Cross Ready Partners program to further strengthen the Chapter's preparedness to respond when catastrophic disasters strike.

Gallatin Shalom Zone is a community resource center that provides a broad range of services for low income families of Clearview Heights and other underserved neighborhoods in Sumner County. Services include child care, after school programs, health care, educational and mentoring programs for youth, counseling, and other social service programs. The Memorial Foundation awarded capital funding to help renovate the historic Union High School building located in the Clearview Heights Community to serve as the new Community Resource Center.

Neighborhoods Resource Center assists residents in the formation and development of on-going neighborhood organizations that take action to improve the quality of life in their community. The Center assists residents by providing information, leadership training, consulting and support services, and by forming collaborative relationships with, and providing support to institutions that serve neighborhoods. Over the past 10 years, the Center has provided services to over 170 neighborhood groups and 100 nonprofit organizations. All programs and services are offered at no charge. The Memorial Foundation awarded capital funding to renovate and maintain the Nashville Firehall #1 facility to create the new Center for Neighborhoods and Community Action.

Together, these and other recipient organizations are making a lasting impact in the lives of people in Middle Tennessee.
