The Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce that it awarded grants to 56 organizations during the fourth quarter of 2011. Grants will support a wide variety of vital services in Middle Tennessee.

The Safe Haven Family Shelter provides comprehensive services for homeless families. They are the only 24-hour shelter in Nashville where homeless families with children can remain together. Combined operations comprise one homeless shelter for five families, transitional homes for eight families and independent housing assistance for up to ten families. Funding from The Memorial Foundation provides general program support.

The Hope Clinic for Women provides faith-based education, counseling and medical care for women involved in unwanted and unplanned pregnancies. The Clinic seeks to reduce unplanned pregnancies through abstinence education and healthy lifesyle counseling. The Memorial Foundation awarded funding support for the Medical Services Program which provides limited obstetrical ultrasounds, early pre-natal education, STD education, screening and treatment, unplanned pregnancy prevention education and cervical cancer screenings.

The Salvus Center provides affordable, accessible primary medical care for uninsured, working residents of Sumner County. The Center operates two clinics in Sumner County. Funding from The Memorial Foundation provides operating support for the Gallatin and Hendersonville clinics and startup support for new dental care services.

The PENCIL Foundation coordinates efforts by Nashville area businesses and civic organizations to support Metro Nashville Public Schools. PENCIL connects each of Nashville's 144 public schools (78,000 students) to volunteers and resources from 716 Nashville businesses and community organizations. Funding from The Memorial Foundation provides support for the Reading Partners and Math Partners Programs. Reading and Math Partners are community volunteers who are recruited and trained to work directly with students who are below proficiency in these subjects. Since inception in 2000, Math and Reading Partners have served almost 27,000 students.

Together, these and other recipient organizations are making a lasting impact in the lives of people in Middle Tennessee.
